The Phoebus Jazz Summer Music Series

Join drummer, composer, music educator and radio personality Jae Sinnett as he presents world-class talent during the Phoebus Jazz Summer Music Series July 13th and 20th at 8:00 PM at The American Theatre in Hampton, VA.

The July 13th show will showcase performances by renowned trumpeter Randy Brecker, pianist Cyrus Chestnut and Virginia Beach native and pianist Justin Kauflin, who has recorded albums with Quincy Jones.  Jae will accompany the artists on drums, with Terry Burrell on bass.

Newport News native Queen Esther Marrow will perform a week later, on July 20th, joined by Jae’s Zero to 60 Quartet featuring Ralph Bowen on tenor saxophone, Terry Burrell on bass, Allen Farnham on piano and Jae on drums.

Randy Brecker

Randy Brecker

Randy Brecker – An American trumpeter, flugelhornist and composer.  His versatility has made him a popular studio musician who has recorded with acts in jazz, rock and R&B.  He is also a five-time Grammy Award winner.

 

Jazz trumpeter and composer Randy Brecker has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock for more than four decades. His trumpet and flugelhorn performances have graced hundreds of albums by a wide range of artists from James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Parliament/Funkadelic to Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, Jaco Pastorius and Frank Zappa.

Cyrus Chestnut

Cyrus Chestnut – An American jazz pianist, composer and producer.  He enjoys mixing styles and resists being typecast in any one niche, though his gospel sound is apparent on a number of his recordings.

Justin Kauflin

Justin Kauflin – Los Angeles-based jazz pianist, composer, producer and educator most notably known for his appearance in the award-winning documentary Keep On Keepin’ On based on the mentorship/friendship of Justin and legendary trumpeter, Clark Terry.

 

Pianist Justin Kauflin performs Coming Home with members of his trio, including Corey Fonville on drums and Evan Gregor on bass at jazzahead! 2018 in Bremen, Germany from his latest album Coming Home.

Jae Sinnett

Jae Sinnett – Drummer, Composer, Music Educator and Radio Personality.  He has released 15 albums in his music career and written over 250 compositions and scored music for five documentaries – one of which – John Biggers: Stories of Illumination – was aired on PBS.

Jae Sinnett’s Zero to 60 Quartet – Featuring Terry Burrell on Bass, Allen Farnham on Piano, Jae on Drums and Ralph Bowen on Tenor Saxophone, the quartet performs music from Jae’s 2016 hit album Zero to 60 as well as other music.
